Sirni Zagovezni

On this day children and adults dress up in old cloths. They cover their faces with ash to disguise and prevent themselves from the evil spirits. . Some prepare masques and special costumes. Dressed up this way the participants (Kukeri) in the ritual, called Kukeruvane, go along the streets and visit houses.

The Kukeri set up fires aiming exorcising evil spirits and beginning of new life in the Spring.

Most beloved from the kids are the evening ritual games. A piece of white halva (candy) or a cooked egg is hanged on the girder in the house. The players are challenged to catch the candy or the egg using nothing but their mouth. Usually all the members of the family participate in the game.

On this day the people ask each other forgiveness.
